Thomson Geer assists Queen’s Road Capital on US$15 million investment in gold/copper developer Challenger Exploration

Resources-focused investment company Queen’s Road Capital Investment Ltd. has closed a US$15 million investment in ASX-listed gold and copper development company Challenger Exploration Ltd, with assistance from Thomson Geer.

The investment was made via convertible debentures in Challenger, with the funds to be used to pursue exploration and development activities at Challenger’s Hualilan gold project in Argentina and El Guayabo gold-copper project in Ecuador.

Queen’s Road Capital (QRC) is backed by resources entrepreneur Andrew Forrest and fast food sector businessman Jack Cowin, who each hold 25 per cent of QRC, which is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The Thomson Geer team was led by Partner Scott Gibson, who congratulated QRC on its latest investment.

QRC is a leading financier to the global resources sector, investing in privately held and publicly traded resource companies. It is led by CEO Warren Gilman and President Alex Granger, who have over 60 years’ collective experience of financing resources projects.

Thomson Geer advised QRC on Australian regulatory aspects of the transaction and worked with prominent Canadian law firm Stikeman Elliott LLP on the investment.

The Thomson Geer team also included Partner Paul Tanti, Special Counsel Cameron Bill and Helen Jin and Senior Associate Chris Seotis.
