Thomson Geer is pleased to congratulate Partner Jacquie Seemann on winning three swimming medals for Australia at this year’s Maccabiah Games in Israel.
Maccabiah, sometimes called ‘the Jewish Olympics’, is the second largest sporting event in the world and is open to Jewish athletes from around the world, and Israeli citizens regardless of religion. This year, more than 10,000 athletes from 61 countries competed, and more than 550 athletes and support staff made up the Australian Delegation.
As well as competing in the pool, Jacquie attended the games as Head of the Maccabi Team Australia Tribunal.
The Tribunal’s purpose was to be available to adjudicate complaints arising from internal team issues such as breaches of Member Protection Policies and/or disciplinary decisions.
Jacquie won silver medals in the 200m breaststroke and 4x50m freestyle relay, and bronze in the 100m breaststroke in her Masters category. Team Australia finished 4th in the overall medal tally with 104 medals.
‘I used to swim competitively at school, but only recently got back into the pool in a serious way after hip surgery and a bout of COVID,’ Jacquie said. ‘It was good to have the Games as a goal to strive for, and now I’m hooked on swimming again.’
Jacquie, who is part of Thomson Geer’s Employment and Safety team, has a special interest in sports law.
She is a member of Football NSW’s General Purposes Tribunal and has been involved with Maccabi Australia, the umbrella sporting organisation for Jewish sport and wellbeing in Australia, for many years. She chairs Maccabi Australia Board’s Member Protection subcommittee, and played a key role in drafting Maccabi’s Member Protection Policies.
Thomson Geer has an extensive sports law practice, assisting sports people, clubs and organisations with their unique legal needs.
