William specialises in front end construction matters. He is a trusted advised to a number of high-profile construction and infrastructure clients and manages all aspects of contract preparation including negotiation, drafting and risk analysis, as well as providing ongoing live project support.

He is experienced in drafting and advising on all Australian standard form construction contracts. William has worked with a broad range of clients including developers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, financiers, purchasers and tenants on construction and infrastructure projects. He has recently completed a year-long secondment with the in-house legal team at Lendlease Construction.

William is a qualified solicitor in England and Wales only with over 10 years' experience in the construction industry. Prior to moving to Australia in January 2020, he worked in London for a US law firm and a national law firm. During this time, he advised clients on the main forms of English and international construction contracts. He also undertook secondments to the Middle East and with the in-house legal team at Mace Group, a leading international construction and consultancy company.

Airport project

Providing project delivery services on the upgrade of the domestic and international terminals of Brisbane Airport including negotiating downstream agreements and the novation of the baggage handling contractor.

Health facility

Acting for a leading building contractor on a $250m medical research facility in Sydney, including advising on the procurement process and negotiating the building contract. Also, drafting the pass down template subcontract and consultancy agreement, drafting contract administration manual containing flowcharts and notices for key procedures and a contract relationship diagram.

University project

Negotiating the ECI, Early Works and Main Works contracts on a $250m+ new sciences building at Curtin University, Perth.

Road project

Instructed by a tier one contractor on the tender stage of a multi-billion dollar road infrastructure project in New South Wales. Drafted template Major and Minor Works Subcontracts and Supply Agreements. Negotiated the Tender Services Agreement with our client’s design consultant and the Joint Venture Agreement.

Cladding remediation

Acted for a national contractor on its downstream contracts for Project Remediate, a government initiative to rectify defective cladding in New South Wales. This involved negotiating numerous forms of agreements with various consultants and ensuring that there is no liability gap with our client’s head contract.

Hotel

Acted for a developer on its redevelopment of a site in Haymarket, Sydney, into an upscale hotel. Drafted and negotiated the ECI deed and AS 4902 building contract with a leading contractor and liaised with Transdev regarding interface of the works with Sydney Light Rail.
