Jim Baillie is a business lawyer with broad corporate and commercial experience. He is also experienced in alternative dispute resolution and is an accredited mediator and a grade 3 arbitrator registered by the Resolution Institute. The focus of his ADR practice is the facilitation, arbitration or mediation of conflicts involving corporate, commercial, governance, trust or property issues (other than building disputes). 

Jim has more than 30 years’ experience advising hospitals and health care providers on major projects, tenders, contracts and fundraising. He has participated in some of Australia’s largest projects in the health and aged care sector including the development of new hospitals, existing hospital redevelopments, and the sale and acquisition of hospitals. 

Jim has been involved in setting up a number of major regional and national mergers, restructures and alliances, and is recognised across the health care sector for his commercial negotiation skills and outcome driven approach.

Institute of Sisters of Mercy

Acting on all civil law aspects of the merger of 15 Mercy religious congregations to form a new national body Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea, including transfer of significant assets and change of control of numerous health, aged care, education, and welfare operations.

Aged care consolidation

Advising on a complicated consolidation of aged care facilities within a large national health care provider.

Not-for-profits

Advising not-for-profit clients on the consequences of the formation of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, and planning to assist those clients in complying with changes that arise from the announced intention to abolish that commission.
