Increases to Award rates commencing 1 October

September 29, 2022

Earlier this year the Fair Work Commission ordered an increase to minimum rates in Awards of 4.6% (or $40 per week for wage rates below $869.60 per week).

For the majority of Awards, these changes took effect from 1 July 2022.  However, for a handful of Awards in industries that were particularly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, these increases were delayed until 1 October 2022.

In accordance with the Commission’s decision, the increase to minimum rates will take effect from 1 October for the following Awards:

  • Aircraft Cabin Crew Award 2020
  • Airline Operations – Ground Staff Award 2020
  • Air Pilots Award 2020
  • Airport Employees Award 2020
  • Airservices Australia Enterprise Award 2016
  • Alpine Resorts Award 2020
  • Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2020
  • Marine Tourism and Charter Vessels Award 2020
  • Registered and Licensed Clubs Award 2020
  • Restaurant Industry Award 2020.

Employers paying in accordance with these Awards will need to increase their pay rates in line with the increase.  Likewise, employers covered by these Awards and using an annualised salary or an above Award set off arrangement should review these arrangements to ensure that employee remuneration still adequately covers all entitlements employees would have if the Award were strictly applied.
